I am a "newcomer" to Blue Grass Music, and really enjoy it! I recently moved to Haines city, a 21 min. drive to Auburndale. I would like to attend the the Jam at the Double Dragon Rest., at 6:00 pm Thursday, but I see it's at the International Market World. Is this Jam session opened at this time?

We have been going to this jam for years and love it. It begins about 4:30 with old style country and bluegrass. There is limited seating in the community center where the bands take turns using the stage for about 45 minutes. Jam groups play in several places around the property so bring lawn chairs. Hot dogs, cheeseburgers and fries are available at reasonable prices and the proceeds support the upkeep of the property. Otherwise, the entertainment is free. Hope to see you there!

I have spoke to Mr. Houston Hales Sr. son at my job. I work for Frontier Communications out of Deland Florida. I spoke to Houston's son which lives in Tennessee  on the phone he was a wonder customer to speak with. He has advised me to go  and listen to the great country music in your area. I will attend the music jam session on Feb 26. I will be stopping by to meet Houston Sr.  Can wait to hear all the great music.

"The FL House recently closed and I want to know if the group that picked there on Monday nights has a new location in the area."

I am looking for some pickers (snowbirds) that will be in the Fort Myers area for January, February and March. We lost some players that will not be returning back to Florida. Why I do not know! I specifically need a banjo, mandolin and lead guitar person for some upcoming free events.

"Just wanted to make some comments about the Ocoee parking lot jam on Friday Nights. There are a bunch of talented musicians at this event... a couple banjos, bass, dobro, fiddles, guitars and mandolins - all making some GREAT sounds. Non-playing folks just pull up and plunk down in their lawn chairs and soak it all in. Who can believe this kind of entertainment is free??? You have to come by and see what all the funs all about. Anyone is welcome to play along, even beginners. Check it out!"

"This is a great jam with lots of participation, talent and hospitality. It was established eighteen years ago and draws players from all over the state. The parking lot is safe and well lit and if you want a snack, feel free to bring a cooler (no alcohol please) and your lawn chair. There are also several restaurants, including a Pizza Hut and a Twistee Treat, around the parking lot.

If you're a picker, you may want your favorite stool or a tailgate. If you come by Florida turnpike, take Ocoee Exit B and go east on State Highway 50 just past Maguire Rd. and turn in the drive just past the BP Station on the right. Be prepared for a Friday evening of good music! "
